Industrial automation

Robotic pick & place

A successful robotic application brings together the robot, end-of-arm tooling, product presentation and surrounding equipment. We support the definition and integration of pick-and-place applications with a practical focus on repeatability and serviceability.

SCOPE OF SUPPORT

Make every part of the handling cycle count.

01

Assess the application

Reach, payload, cycle time, product orientation and available space inform the concept. Product samples and an understanding of material variation help establish the requirements for gripping and release.

02

Integrate the surrounding equipment

Infeed control, sensors, fixtures, conveyors and machine communication are part of the robotic cell. We coordinate the interfaces and identify the tooling, controls and specialist resources needed for implementation.

03

Plan validation and recovery

Trials consider successful handling as well as missed picks, inconsistent presentation and restart after a stop. Safeguarding responsibilities and required assessments are defined with the appropriate project stakeholders.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Clear work. Useful outputs.

The final deliverables are agreed in the project scope. Depending on the assignment, they can include:

  • Application requirements and feasibility considerations
  • Tooling and equipment interface scope
  • Commissioning and validation plan
  • Operating and maintenance handover requirements

COMMON QUESTIONS

Good questions to ask.

Can an existing robotic cell be modified?

Potentially. The robot model, controller, software access, tooling and proposed application need to be reviewed before feasibility can be confirmed.

Can you guarantee a cycle time from a description?

Performance is confirmed through an agreed engineering assessment and validation process. A description alone does not establish a guaranteed production rate.
